About «Two Holy Trinities»

«A programme that combines music for string orchestra by the three great composers who miraculously share the same birth-year - 1685 - with three of the greatest contemporaries from the classical era, each group of three pieces containing one arrangement.

Bach, Handel and Scarlatti were three utterly different personalities whose lives intersected (even though Bach and Handel never met), but who lived for the most part in different countries and specialised in different genres. Interspersed with these baroque orchestral works are pieces for cello and orchestra by three later contemporaries whose music, while clearly deriving from the same era, shows three utterly different souls at work. Mozart and Haydn loved and appreciated each other, while Boccherini - like Scarlatti, an Italian who spent much of his life in Spain - was a musical outsider who developed a gentle, infinitely elegant style that is unique.»
