«Mozart-Labor»

This CAMERATA BERN workshop concert promises new views of the familiar. Rainer Schmidt, Hagen Quartet violinist and music professor, sheds light on one of the most famous works of classical music: Mozart's serenade “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” (“A Little Night Music”). Precisely because we think we know it so well, layers of it remain hidden from us. Why does Mozart wake us up with the familiar motif at the beginning of his “Nachtmusik”? What should we make of the shimmering accompaniment of sixteenth notes, when the melody begins after this wake-up call? What goblins are scurrying around? The “Kleine Nachtmusik” is full of riddles, right down to the figures of ancient poetry.

Schubert's Rosamunde Quartet in the second part: also an old friend? Hardly, if you search Schubert the Romantic for his classical roots. The first Camerata Lab is an analysis and concert in one – join us in this experiment. It’s ear-opening.
