Running time: approx. 1.5 hours
Lily Higson-Spence, CAMERATA BERN's newest ensemble member, curates and leads a programme that subtly interweaves and contrasts the two sister arts of music and poetry.
The main works of the evening are the luminous, intimate and at times folk-tinged Serenade by the Czech composer and Dvořák son-in-law Josef Suk, and Claude Debussy's only string quartet.
Alongside both works, words will be projected visually: selected poems that invite encounters with subjective inner experience.
As a counterpoint and inversion, vocal music is presented instrumentally: each of the two main works is preceded by a chorale by Peter Tchaikovsky and Francis Poulenc. Meditations on words that, here, go unspoken.
